Republic of Krakozhia

Wednesday June 23, 2004
In the new Steven Spielberg film The Terminal, Tom Hanks plays Viktor Navorski who is stranded at John F. Kennedy International Airport when his nation's leadership (in the Republic of Krakozhia) changes and becomes unrecognized by the United States. The story of the film is actually based somewhat on the life of Merhan Nasseri, who has lived stateless in Paris' Charles De Gaulle airport for fifteen years! Nasseri now has papers to enable him to leave but he has not yet.
