Geographers at the University of Leeds say that the United Kingdom has more tornadoes per acre than any other place in the world, including the United States. Their models show that many more tornadoes occur than are actually reported in the UK.

I have a still photo of a tornadic cloud over the Severn Valley in Mid Wales. I had a day off and was looking through my window overlooking the Severn Valley in Newtown, Powys and saw a dark cloud forming in a horizontal formation across the sky. Clouds nearby were being sucked into it and it began to rope out. My family laughed at me when I said it was a tornadic cloud. I would love to have it confirmed that it was a tornado forming. If you are interested I will send you the photo.

This is fascinating as the guys I work with can’t understand my fascination with this, I live in teh fens and over last 3-4 years I’ve seen 2x tornadoes and possible a 3rd which was just forming. When I’ve mentioned the fact that UK gets a lot of tornadoes they think I’m mad, I will in future try and record and report each sighting, maybe the Fens is tornadoe alley UK lol, watching iplayer today I note that the jet stream finishes over Uk, maybe this has something to do with it?
