2003 Had Fewest Air Crashes

According to a report by the Aviation Safety Network, 2003 was the safest year for commercial airliners in modern aviation history. Worldwide, only 25 commercial airliners crashed in fatal accidents in 2003. Fatal airliner accidents averaged 61 annual accidents in the 1970s, 53 in the 1980s, 48 in the 1990s, and 33 so far for the 2000s.
