The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released their annual detailed report on birth statistics for the U.S. They found that the average age at first birth was 25.1 years in 2002 (all-time high in the U.S.), birth rates for women 35-44 were the highest in more than three decades, and just over one in 10 women smoked during pregnancy in 2002.
