In today's referendum, almost 67% of Estonians voted to approve joining the European Union. Ten countries are invited to join the European Union on May 1, 2004. These additions will increase EU membership from 15 to 25. Currently Estonia, Malta, Slovenia, Hungary, Lithuania, Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic have already voted yes. Latvia votes next week. Independent (Greek) Cyprus also becomes a member next year.
