Tuesday July 8, 2003
The Brazilian Olympic Committee has chosen Rio de Janeiro over Sao Paulo to lead its bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games. The choice between Rio and Sao Paulo was the last for a national Olympic committee. Nine cities are in the running for the 2012 Summer Games - Rio de Janeiro, New York, London, Leipzig, Havana, Madrid, Moscow, Paris and Istanbul. On July 6, 2005 the IOC will meet in Singapore to choose the host for the 2012 Games.
