9 of 10 Highest Rent Cities in California

Irvine, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Fremont, and Thousand Oaks, California recorded the highest median gross rents among large U.S. cities all at or above $1,200 a month according to a report based on Census 2000 data. The only non-California city in the top high-rent tier was Stamford, Conn. Residents in Brownsville, Texas, and Erie, Pa., paid the lowest monthly rents.
