The U.S. Census Bureau just released their July 1, 2002 estimates of national population. It seems that the U.S. population has grown from 281,421,906 at Census 2000 to 288,368,698 as of last July 1, an increase of almost seven million people in just over two years (equivalent to adding the entire San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose metropolitan area to the country in that time).
